Nick grew up living in a
home on Lombard Street in Baltimore, MD along with his Father (Jerome
Acks, Jr.), Mother (Martha Acks) and younger brother (Jerome Acks, III
who is also one of the groomsmen).
Nick graduated from Archbishop Curley High School in the Spring of 1993. He then attended the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) where he met two more of his groomsmen (Bill McHale and Tim Meushaw). Bill was a coworker of Nick's at University Computing Services (now called the Office of Information Technology) at UMBC. Nick met Tim while they were both members of the UMBC's Student Government Association.
Leaving UMBC in the Spring of 1998, Nick took a contractor position (Raytheon) with the NASA Center for Computational Sciences (NCCS) at the Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC). There he spent several years as a UNIX systems administrator. In the summer of 2000, the NCCS support contract changed hands and Computer Sciences Corporation took over. Nick decided that it was a good time to try something different for a while and with the help of another friend from UMBC (Peter Laird) he left the NCCS and started a job as a Technical Support Engineer at the Bethesda, MD office of Interwoven, Inc.
While at Interwoven, Nick began
renting a room from Bill Mchale who was living in a house in Silver
Spring, MD. While helping Bill move into his new house, Nick met
Eva Decker who was a friend of Bill's from his time spent at Loyola
College. Eva and Nick became friends and
continued to see each other whenever he spent time hanging out with
Bill's Towson friends (friends that he met at Loyola and most of whom
live around Towson).
